Bates' Otis Lecturer in 2015, Jennifer Baichwal directed this documentary about renowned photographer Edward Burtynsky, whose large-scale images of "manufactured landscapes" – quarries, recycling yards, factories, mines, dams — raise challenging questions about ethics and aesthetics. The film follows Burtynsky to China as he captures the evidence and effects of that country's massive industrial revolution. Presented in conjunction with the Museum of Art exhibition Anthropocenic.
