Jose Mestre, professor of physics and educational psychology at the University of Illinois, discusses research that sheds light on what students attend to when performing cognitive tasks in physics. The studies explore obstacles to, and factors facilitating, competent performance. Some findings debunk biases or hunches that science professors have about what students do, and several of the findings will likely surprise listeners. FMI 207-753-6963.
