Join us for an artist talk by Cristi Rinklin, whose painting Vanishing Point is currently on view in the exhibition, Rooted and Rising: Introducing the Permanent Collection. Rinklin’s paintings, installations, and works on paper examine the interplay between technological and analog simulations of landscapes. In this talk, Rinklin will discuss how, rather than providing faithful representations of the natural world, her work creates illusory composites—environments that exist between geographical, virtual, and psychic spaces.
Cristi Rinklin earned her MFA from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, in 1999, and her BFA in painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 1989. With over twenty-five years of experience, she has exhibited her work in galleries and museums across the United States, including solo exhibitions at the Zillman Museum of Art, Newport Art Museum, Fitchburg Art Museum, and Currier Museum of Art. Rinklin has received grants from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, Berkshire Taconic Artist’s Resource Trust, and Jerome Foundation Fellowship. She has participated in residencies at the American Academy in Rome Visiting Artist and Scholar program and the Sam and Adele Golden Foundation for the Arts. Her work is represented in Boston by Ellen Miller Gallery. Rinklin is a Professor at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, and she lives and works in Boston, Massachusetts.
