portrait of myself as my father
takes place in a simulated boxing ring in which chipaumire and
Senegalese dancer Pape Ibrahima Ndiaye are tied together, both linked
and opposed, in an exhausting and symbolic dance-ritual. The elastic
bands that connect them symbolically question family ties. Also
appearing is Brooklyn-based dancer Shamar Watt. Myron Beasley of the
Bates College faculty offers a pre-performance talk at 7pm. Tickets and FMI batesdancefestival.org.
