For its 153rd Commencement, Bates welcomes speaker and honorary degree recipient Jennifer Doudna, co-inventor of the CRISPR-Cas9 gene-editing technology and a leading voice in the discussion of its societal and ethical implications. Also receiving honorary degrees today are Army veteran and veterans’ advocate Travis Mills, and former U.S. chief technology officer and tech visionary Megan Smith. (Invited to receive an honorary degree but unable to attend is civil rights and labor activist Dolores Huerta, who will visit Bates in the fall.) See the livestream. FMI 207-786-6400.
