Events in Ferguson, Mo., and elsewhere have sparked months of civil unrest nationwide and reignited a national conversation about race and social justice. Panelists will field questions about their personal reactions to these issues and perspectives on related topics, including the symbolic force of Ferguson, how the #blacklivesmatter protests relate to traditions of nonviolent dissent, and the rhetoric of media and public responses. Speakers include Bates students and faculty as well as Najeeba Syeed-Miller of the Claremont School of Theology. Sponsors: Amandla!, the Multifaith Chaplaincy and the departments of Spanish, English and religious studies. FMI 207-786-6400 or the online program.
